Six JCC Teams Earn NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year; 36 Student-Athletes Earn NJCAA All-Academic Team Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The last of the academic awards came in for Jamestown Community College, this time with the announcement of the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year and NJCAA All-Academic Teams.

The Jayhawks had six teams earn the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year award along with 36 student-athletes earn NJCAA All-Academic honors. JCC’s six NJCAA Team of the Year awards led all of Region 3 by four teams.

“This is a great accomplishment for our teams and student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics George Sisson. “We are prideful in competing at a high level on the playing field as well as in the classroom. To say I am proud of our teams and student-athletes would be an understatement.”

As a team, in order to receive NJCAA Academic Team of the Year status, the team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 through the academic year. The Jamestown teams to receive the honors are men’s golf, men’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming & diving, volleyball, and wrestling.

For the individuals, they are broken down to three teams. To be NJCAA All-Academic First Team, a student-athlete maintained a 4.0 GPA, NJCAA All-Academic Second Team ranged from 3.80-3.99 GPA, while NJCAA All-Academic Third Team ranged from 3.60-3.79 GPA.

Men’s soccer led the way with eight honorees with baseball and wrestling each having five players named. Golf had two representatives with men’s basketball and men’s swimming & diving rounding out the men’s sports with one honoree each.

For the women, volleyball led the way with four honorees with women’s soccer, women’s swimming & diving, and softball each having three representatives. Women’s cross country rounds out the list with one honoree.
