Strong Start and Fast Finish Leads JCC to Tenth Straight Win

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team took home a hard-fought win over Monroe Community College, 72-68, Wednesday night. This victory makes it ten straight for the Jayhawks.

Jamestown jumped out to a quick lead, 14-3, thanks to some ferocious defense and a transition bucket by Jennica Berens, who just missed a triple-double by two points.

Monroe clawed back, and JCC saw a 17-14 lead after the first quarter.

Jamestown's lead completely evaporated midway through the second with the game tied 23-23.

The Jayhawks build the advantage back to five on the back of a three from Andrea Johnson.

JCC would take a one-point lead to the halftime break.

Jamestown trailed for the first time late in the third, with the score sitting at 44-41.

That lead would last to the seven-minute mark of the fourth, where another Jerica Barnard field goal in the paint evened it at 53-53. She finished with a team-high 14.

JCC took command after that; sophomore Myla Truitt, who also scored 14, hit a couple of mid-range jumpers to see JCC expand the edge to 63-55.

The Jayhawks never looked back, closing in on the four-point win.

The victory moves JCC to 14-2 on the year and 2-0 in league play.

Next up, Jamestown stays home for a Saturday afternoon date with Bryand and Stratton of Buffalo at 1:00 PM.
