Jayhawks Start Fast and Never Look Back

Jayhawks Start Fast and Never Look Back

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's Hayley Dawson looked poised to sink threes from her native Papamoa, New Zealand, early in the JCC 89-58 win. The sophomore buried a pair of corner triples in the first three minutes to give JCC an eight-point lead. She'd finish with 14 on the night.

The Jayhawks quickly doubled up the Titans thanks to more sharp shooting, this time by fellow sophomore Angelique Palacio who finished with a team-high 15.

CCBC made a little run to open the second quarter, with Saige Chambers drawing the Titans to within three at 18-15.

Four quick points from Kaleigha Plett once again put JCC up seven. Another Plett bucket in the middle of the second quarter put the home squad up 11. She'd finish the evening with eight off the bench.

The JCC edge only got bigger from there. Chyann Kelly finished in the paint to see the lead grow to 17 at 41-24. It would be 11 at the break, 42-31.

In the second half, CCBC closed the gap to eight at one point, 44-36, but that was as close as things would get. Another Dawson long-range bomb stretched the score back to 49-36. Then she cashed in just before the frame ended to make it a 21-point game.

The fourth quarter saw JCC head coach Dave Turnbull start to play some reserves. The home crowd went nuts to see Grace Guarino and Mbali Mhlanga get on the board with buckets.

The key for JCC was shooting nearly 50% from the distance, at 10 of 21.

The 31-point win moved the Jayhawks to 9-11 on the season. They head north to Erie Community College on Saturday.
