Second Half Struggles Doom Jayhawks

NIAGARA FALLS, NY - A disappointing second half cost Jamestown Community College on Wednesday as they fell to Mohawk Valley Community College 67-58 in the Niagara CCC MLK Classic.

The Jayhawks were in a quick 5-0 hole before they fought back to within one at 13-12 behind a triple from Keturah Stewart (Bethlehem, PA / Freedom HS). She finished with a team-high 17.

JCC would take its first lead just before the quarter expired on a made jumper from Angelique Palacio (Tucson, AZ / Desert View HS). The sophomore also reached double-digits, finishing the game with 11 points.

Jamestown would build a lead as big a six in the second quarter before going to the break up five on the back of a Grace Lundmark (Falconer, NY / Falconer HS) bucket just before the buzzer. At the break, the Jayhawks were up 31-26. Lundmark, the reigning Region 3 player of the week, had ten points and eight rebounds on the night.

Things fell apart from there for JCC. The Jayhawks shot just 20% from the field in the third quarter, hitting only four of 20 shots. They lost the frame 18-10 and trailed by four heading to the final ten minutes.

Jamestown played better in the last stanza, making 50% of their shots, but Mohawk was clutch at the line. They made 23 free throws to just six from JCC.

The loss knocks the Jayhawks to 6-9 on the season and snaps a two-game winning streak.

The ladies don't have much of a break as they are right back on the road Saturday when they visit Lakeland Community College at 3:00 PM.
