Jayhawk Ladies Win WNYAC, Men take 2nd in Genesee

BATAVIA, NY - The Jamestown Community College women's swimming and diving team finished a perfect Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) schedule at the Genesee Community College (GCC) WNYAC Meet Wednesday night.

The ladies went 3-0 at GCC, compiling an unblemished WNYAC record of 9-0.

The men also had a strong showing, going 2-1 on the night for a second-place finish. Focusing on the ladies' results.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Ella Fosberg, Lindsey Spitz, Paiden Wittmeyer, and Anna Jones won the event with a time of 4:54:35.

Stacey Blackler followed that up in the 1000-yard freestyle by bringing home a second-place result.

Flipping to 200 free, Madison Kramer continued a dominating season, winning by almost 20 seconds. Teammate Ella Fosberg earned third place in the event.

In the 50 free, it was almost a clean sweep by Jamestown, with Wittmeyer winning and Shaylynn Owens and Ashlynn Swan coming in third and fourth.

The ladies did sweep the 400-yard IM, with Spitz taking gold, Hayley Dawson silver, and Jones bronze.

Kramer and Owens also podiumed in the 100-yard free, with Maddie taking first by nearly 14 seconds. Shaylynn claimed third.

It was another all-Jayhawks showing at the top of the 500 free, Fosberg edging out Jones for the win.

The domination for the ladies continued in the 100 IM, Kramer, Wittmeyer, and Blackler notched first, second, and third.

Finally, in the 200-yard breaststroke, Spitz grabbed the crown, with Blackler coming in second.

In the diving pool, Swan was again on point, taking first in the one-meter dive by a score almost 40 points ahead of second. Fellow Jayhawk Shaylynn Owens came in fourth in the event.

"The women's team had some more tremendous swims last night and wrapped up the WYNAC championship. The girls have been working so hard and really have their focus on capturing a regional championship. The bigger picture is returning to the top and capturing our third national championship. I know they are up for the challenges over the next two months. The coaches look forward to a strong finish," said head coach Todd Conklin.

The men also found themselves on the leaderboard for many of the events.

Maxim Johnson brought home a second in the 400-yard IM. Johnson also won the men's 100 free, teammates Toby Gifford coming in fourth, Lukas Baer sixth, and Randall Hall ninth. Max was victorious in the 500-yard free as well.

In the sprints, Brady Lindstrom was just edged out for the top spot in 50-yard free, with Gifford earning a seventh.

Then in 100-yard IM, Lindstrom took third while Colton Schuman finished ninth. Schuman was also fourth in the 200-yard backstroke.

Switching to the 200 breaststroke, Lindstrom came in second, with Gifford fourth, Rinat Kalimullin sixth, and Hall seventh.

JCC took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind a team of Schuman, Hall, Kalimullin, and Baer.

"The men's team had a great night! We are looking forward to the championship season, where they all have their focus. We know we are not where we need to be yet, but the hard work they are putting in will give us great results for the end," added Conklin.

Next for both squads is a trip down Route 60 to Fredonia State on Thursday, February 1st.
