Jayhawks Close Strong but Fall to #15 SUNY Niagara

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team fought to the end against fifteenth-ranked SUNY Niagara but fell 85-73 at home Wednesday night.

JCC took its first lead of the contest at the 15:21 mark, going up 9-8 on a three from Travis Castro, who scored seven.

The tight battle lasted through the first 10 minutes, with Jamestown taking another one-point lead, 25-24, from a three by Federico Foddai, who also scored seven and added nine rebounds.

Niagara started to build a lead after that, scoring 10 of the next 12 points, mostly from guard Reggie Smith Jr., who led all scorers with 20.

The Jayhawks would go to the half trailing by 15 at 48-33.

Jamestown's deficit swelled to 25 early in the second half before a Tamir Barrant rebound and transition layup stopped the bleeding. The freshman finished with a team-high 18.

Marcus Wynter, who also scored 18, would put up five straight to start a run for JCC.

They'd draw within 76-64 with just under five minutes to play on another bucket from Barrant.

The margin hovered around 10 to 12 for the rest of the contest, with JCC ultimately falling by 12.

The loss knocks Jamestown down to 0-2 in league play and 4-18 overall.

They hit the road for a non-league game at Community College of Beaver County on Friday, January 31st, at 7:00 PM.
