JAMESTOWN - Looking to get back in the win column, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team came up short against Mercyhurst North East, 81-65, Wednesday evening at the Physical Education Complex.

The Jayhawks (7-10, 0-3 WNYAC) were led by Jordan Thomas who finished with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds (4 offense, 6 defense). Sheick Kourmora added 20 points while Jake Hougan grabbed 10 boards (3 offense, 7 defense). Kyle Butler finished with eight assists, four rebounds and four steals on the night.

The Saints started out fast in the game, getting out to a 13-4 lead in the first three minutes of action. Kourmora got some offense going for Jamestown, knocking down a three-pointer off the feed from Butler. Mercyhurst North East answered the score, increasing their lead to 12 points. Butler once again found Kourmaora for a three-pointer to cut the Saints lead to single digits.

Mercyhurst North East kept their composure as Joshua Huff and Tayarry Sims knocked down their shots from beyond the arc to put their team up 25-12 at the halfway point in the first half.

The Saints lead grew to 20 points in the final minutes of the first half and took a 42-22 lead into the break.

Out of the break, the Saints continued to apply the pressure, gaining their biggest lead of the game as they scored back-to-back buckets to go up 46-22.

Jamestown settled onto their offense, scoring the next six points as Kourmora hit four free throws and Hougan hitting his shot in the lane, making it 46-30 with 16:26 left in regulation. The Jayhawks kept being aggressive, cutting the deficit to nine with Thoms hitting two three-pointers and Jason Guillen and Donathan Daniel each making baskets of their own.

The Saints quickly weathers the storm, pushing their lead back to double digits and maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.

Jmaestown went 22-for-67 (32.8 percent) from the floor while going 4-for-22 (18.2 percent) from beyond the arc. The Saints went 29-for-59 (49.2 percent) from the floor while going 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) from the three-point line. The Jayhawks took advantage of their opportunity at the charity stripe, going 17-for-20 (85.0 percent).

On the glass, Jamestown held the slight edge, grabbing 42 rebounds to the Saints' 41 rebounds. The teams were even in the paint, each scoring 30 points

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, February 1st, as they host Monroe Community College at 4 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex.
