Slow Starts Doom the Jayhawks

The JCC Jayhawks men's basketball team (0-2) had their first home game of the season as they hosted the Red Barons of Corning Community College (2-0).  The Jayhawks started out flat, with the Red Barons taking a 9-0 lead before the Jayhawks could get a bucket of their own.  The Jayhawks clawed their way back and were able to take the lead with 10 minutes to play 13-11.  The Jayhawks would hold onto that lead in an ugly first half of missed opportunities and costly turnovers by both teams, heading to the half with a 23-21 lead.  The second half would continue the trend of off play by both teams, with neither team shooting 35% for the day, and led to the Red Barons taking an early lead again.  The Jayhawks were able to grind their way back, closing the points gap, and with less than 5 minutes to play were able to tie the Red Barons 45-45 and with 3 minutes to play the Jayhawks took the lead 47-45.  However, the Jayhawks would run out of luck on this day as they Red Barons were able to retake the lead and not look back as they downed the Jayhawks 59-53.  The Jayhawks were led by #12 Tyler Moffe who had 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals; #21 Brandon Banna had 12 points and 5 rebounds; #32 Brandon Kemp (Brooklyn) had 10 points and 6 rebounds; #34 Jean Toussaint had 7 points and 13 rebounds; #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) had 6 points and 3 rebounds; and #4 Michael Bush (Harlem) had 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
