Jayhawks Have Six Player Score Double-Digits Against Lackawanna College

SCRATON, Pa. - The Jamestown Community College men's basketball team played team ball in their 96-91 win over Lackawanna College as six players scored double-digits.

 

The Jayhawks (1-2, 0-1 WNYAC) were led offensively by redshirt-sophomore guard Isaac Allen (Houstn, TX/Texas Connection Academy) and freshman guard Joseph Okonobo (Boston, MA/Bradford Christian Academy) scoring 20 points each. Sophomore forward Jacob Hougan (Chardon, OH/Chardon HS) added 13 points with Kyle Butler (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool HS) and Kane Kenyon (Surrey, Regiate, England/Three Rivers Academy) scoring 11 points each. Henry Brown, Jr. (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg HS North) chipped in with 10 points.

 

Hougan led JCC in rebounds, grabbing eight boards (4 offense, 4 defense) with Butler tying a career-high seven rebounds (1 offense, 6 defense). Butler was also active on the defensive end, getting a career-high seven steals.

 

Nashawn Johnson and Ahmir Elzzy led the offense for the Falcons, scoring 18 points each. A'quele Adderley led the team in rebounds, grabbing nine boards (4 offense, 5 defense)

 

Looking for their first win of the season, JCC knew they were going to have to battle in order to get the win.

 

The Jayhawks opened the game on a 7-0 run with baskets made by Allen, Kenyon, and Butler.

 

JCC held the lead for the majority of the first half, gaining a lead as much as six to begin the season. Lackawanna gained their first lead of the game at the 11:28 mark of the first half with Adderly converting a free throw and hitting the jumper to put the Falcons up 19-17.

 

The Jayhawks and Falcons exchanged leads of five points on several occasions in the half. Lackawanna grew their lead to seven points with just over three minutes before intermission, going up 38-31 after the jumper from Jaylen Davis.

 

JCC continued to battle in the closing minutes of the half, finishing with a 13-3 run to go up 44-41 at the break.

 

The Falcons did not go away easily in the second half, making it a one possession game on several occasions.

 

The Jayhawks saw their lead grow to as many as 18 points with 2:39 left in regulation thanks in part to a 4-0 run. During the run, Okonoboh made a pair of free throws and a made jumper by Butler.

 

Lackawanna did make it a one possession game with 1:06 remaining with a made shot by Ellzy to make it 94-91. The Falcons did have several opportunities to take the lead but missed their last five shots on the afternoon.

 

JCC went 34-for-79 (43.0 percent) from the floor including 10-for-18 (55.6 percent) from beyond the arc. Lackawanna shot 36-for-84 (42.9 percent) from the field while going 4-for-20 (20.0 percent) from three-point land.

 

The Falcons held the advantage on the glass, out rebounding the Jayhawks 45-44. JCC did take advantage of the extra possessions, scoring 22 points off turnovers to Lackawanna's 17 points.

 

The Jayhawks will be off until Friday, March 12th, as they welcome Region 3 opponent Niagara County Community College for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
