NORTH EAST, Pa. - Looking to snap their eight game skid, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team did just that, securing an 83-81 victory over Mercyhurst North East on the road.

The Jayhawks (8-14, 1-7 WNYAC) got contributions from all five starters, each scoring double digits. Jordan Thomas led the way with 24 points with Jake Hougan scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds (3 offense, 3 defense). To go with 12 points, Donathan Daniels had five assists on the afternoon.

The tone was set early in the first half that it was going to be a slugfest as neither team was able to create much separation. The Saints started to get their offense going late in the first half, getting their biggest lead of 14 points. Mercyhurst North East would continue their offensive attack in the first half, taking a 42-30 lead into the break.

Jamestown did not get discouraged by the big lead, fighting back in the early going of the second half. The tide started to turn right out of the break with the Saints picking up a technical foul. Kourmora hit the backend of the free throw to chip away at the lead. Hougan continued the spark, knocking down his jumper to cut the deficit back to single digits.

Continuing to battle, the Jayhawks tied the game at 52-52 as Daniels knocked down his free throw due to a technical by the Saints. Mercyhurst North East managed to regain their lead over the next two minutes.

Thomas got the lead back for the Jayhawks, hitting a pair of free throws. This would be Jamestown's first lead since the 18:23 mark in the first half.

It was a back-and-forth back battle for the remainder of the game. Even up by two possessions, the lead was not safe. 

Trailing by three with just over a minute left, the Jayhawks had to make their move to come out on top. Kourmora drained both of his free throw attempts to cut the Saints lead to one. FOr the lead, Kourmora drove the lane for the layup and was fouled in the action. Making the layup, he completed the old fashioned three-point play, getting the and-one.

Mercyhurst North East had a chance at the end with a last second layup but was unsuccessful.

On the afternoon, the Jayhawks went 30-for-73 (41.1 percent) from the floor while the Saints went 27-for-53 (50.9 percent). Jamestown made easy offense when creating turnovers, scoring 26 points off turnovers to the Saints' seven points.

The Jayhawks will look to keep the winning way as they travel to Monroe Community College next Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tip.
