Jayhawks Free Throw Shooting Not Enough Against NCCC

JAMESTOWN - With the chance to tie the season-series on their second matchup, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball fell to Niagara County Community College Friday evening by a score of 102-69.

 

The Jayhawks (1-3, 0-2 WNYAC) were led offensively by Isaac Allen (Houston, TX/Texas Connection Academy) with 16 points including 10 free throws made on the night. Joseph Okonoboh (Boston, MA/Bradford Christian Academy)  added 12 points with Kane Kenyon (Surrey, Regiate, England/Three Rivers Academy) chipped in with 10 points. On the glass, Jake Hougan (Chardon, OH/Chardon HS) had a game-high seven boards (0 offense, 7 defense) with Kenyon adding five boards (1 offense, 4 defense).

 

For the Thunderwolves, Adam Hosseini had 19 points with Kailee White adding 16 points, respectively.

 

JCC came out of the gate quickly, going up 6-0 with three-pointers made by Allen and Okonoboh. NCCC scored two straight baskets to remain close before Okonoboh dropped another three-pointer to put the Jayhawks up 9-4.

 

Five minutes into the game, the Thunderwolves found their offense, taking the lead with a made basket from Hosseini. The made basketball helped sparked a run of 19-2 which pushed NCCC's lead to 23-11.

 

The Jayhawks cut the deficit to seven points on multiple occasions but the Thunderwolves came back with an answer of their own to help maintain the lead.

 

JCC went 21-for-56 (37.5 percent) from the floor with NCCC shooting 38-for-77 (49.4 percent) from the field. The Jayhawks took advantage of their free throws opportunities, going 20-for-25 (80 percent) from the line. The Thunderwolves shot 13-for-27 (48.1 percent) from the charity stripe.

 

NCCC had the slight edge on rebounds, grabbing 43 to JCC's 40 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Villa Maria College Sunday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. tip.
