Jayhawks Battle Hard In Tough Loss

The JCC Jayhawks men's basketball team (4-5) hosted the Commodores of Lorain County Community College (5-1).   The Jayhawks brought in a 3 game winning streak while the Commodores only loss of the season was in overtime.  After both teams swapped the lead, the Commodores went on a run  leading to a 12-4 lead after 5 minutes of play.  The Jayhawks then scrapped their way back into the lead before the Commodores took it back and with 10 minutes left in the first half the Commodores held the lead 26-20.  The teams then kept up with each other seemingly shot for shot and with 3 minutes left to play the Commodores  held a slim 36-36 lead.  The teams then swapped leads again with the first half ending with the Jayhawks in the lead 41-39. 

The second half saw both teams continue to play physical basketball, and with 4 minutes gone in the first half the Jayhawks held a 51-44 lead.  The Commodores were able to catch up and tie the game but each time they did the Jayhawks would answer right back and with 8 minutes left to play the Jayhawks led  69-61.  The teams continued to this style of cat and mouse scoring and with 5 minutes left the Jayhawks held a 79-73 lead.  Then a 3 points shot by the Commodores closed the gap to 79-76 and both teams began to force shots trying to establish a run.  With 3 minutes left to play the Jayhawks held a 84-82 lead when a missed 3 point shot by the Jayhawks was rebounded by the Commodores and passed up court where they made a 3 points shot to take the lead 85-84 and get the momentum on their side.  In an the time remaining, both teams were emotionally charged and despite the intensity the Jayhawks were unable to recapture the lead as the Commodores downed the Jayhawks  96-89.

The Jayhawks were led by #34 Jean Toussaint who had a double double of 19 points and 11 rebounds; #12 Tyler Moffe had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists; #32 Brandon Kemp (Brooklyn) had 17 points and 15 rebounds; #4 Michael Bush (Harlem) had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists;  #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) had 12 points; and #21 Brandon Banna had 4 points and 3 rebounds.
