Jayhawks Ride Roller Coaster to Sweep of TCCC

JAMESTOWN, NY - After a 90-minute rain delay, Jamestown Community College played host to a perfect evening for baseball as they swept Tompkins Courtland Community College, 12-1, 11-10.

Game one was about as perfect as things could go for JCC. TCCC grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, but De'Sean Rogers shut the door from there. The sophomore allowed just one more hit after the RBI in the first, going five strong with six strikeouts. Rogers' fellow Jayhawks gave him plenty of help in the second, scoring nine runs in the frame. Bradley Babcock started the hit parade with an RBI double that brought home Mitchell McKinney. Jax Arcuri followed that with a single to right, scoring Hayden Hoag. That gave JCC its first lead of the ball game. Rogers got his own RBI with a single to left, scoring Babcock to make things 3-1. The rest of the inning's RBI went to Timothy Johnson, Tim Beimel, plus McKinney had three with a bases-clearing triple, and Lucas Marsh finished things with a single to put the advantage to 9-1. JCC tacked on three more in the 3rd, with Beimel, McKinney, and Hayden Hoag each driving in runs to close the 12-1 win.

Game two looked like it would be more of the same as the Jayhawks went up 4-0 off on an RBI single from Beimel made it 1-0. The bases were loaded for Rogers in the 2nd when he uncorked a rocket to right, scoring all three runs for the four-run edge. Jamestown held a 10-4 lead going to the 7th, but that's when things fell apart. JCC ran through four pitchers before Dylan Kinney was able to stop the bleeding, but the damage was done, with the game tied 10-10 and the two squads heading to extra innings. In the top half, Kinney struck out the lead-off hitter, then got help behind him with the Jayhawks turning a double play to end the inning. Needing just one run to win in walk-off fashion, JCC started to play small ball. Harley Hoag worked a walk before a Panthers error put men on first and second. TCCC would intentionally walk the red-hot McKinney to load the bases for Marsh. The reigning JCC athlete of the week didn't disappoint as he sliced a game-ending single to center that scored Hoag for the winning run.

The wins are JCC's eighth in their last ten games.

These two teams are right back at it on Thursday, but this time the games are at TCCC.
