Jayhawks Push #2 SUNY Niagara to Brink but Come Up Just Short

NIAGARA FALL, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team pushed the #2 team in the nation to the brink in extra innings but came up just short, 7-6, and then lost game two, 12-6.

JCC didn't look like a monumental upset was within their grasp early in game one against a national powerhouse as they trailed 5-1 going to the bottom half of the sixth inning, but that's when the Jayhawks' bats came to life. Jamestown exploded in the sixth, scoring five runs to take a 6-5 lead. The scoring started with Cadyn Wilson driving in Gabe Roth on an RBI single. Seth Ranieri followed that up with a 2 RBI single that saw Luke Larson and Mitchell McKinney come home for a 5-4 game. JCC took the lead when Yadiel Garcia put the ball in play, scoring Josue Rosario and Michael Wormack for a 6-5 Jamestown advantage. Niagara evened the game up in the seventh at 6-6 to force extra innings. The Jayhawks allowed a run in the top of the eighth and couldn't bring in a run in the bottom half for the 7-6 loss.

In game two, JCC once again took an early lead when Garcia stole home to give them a 1-0 edge. From there, Niagara scored the next nine runs to go up 9-1. Jamestown went to the sixth down 11-1 before Santino Musone, McKinney, and Rinieri all drove in runs to make it an 11-6 game. The Jayhawks couldn't get any closer as they ultimately lost 12-6.

JCC returns home on Tuesday, April 22nd, when they host Tompkins Cortland Community College at 2:00 PM.
