Jayhawk Gamers Hit Postseason Portion of Schedule

OLEAN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) Valorant team suffered a season-ending defeat to the Western Technical College (WTC) Cavaliers on Saturday by a score of 2 games to 1 in Round 2 of the playoffs. What started out in our favor with a 13-10 win in Game 1 slowly unraveled as the Cavs were able to capitalize on a few mid-late game mistakes in Game 2 to take it 13-11. From there on out, with all the wind out of our sails, the Dirty Birds weren't able to take flight again, and WTC would take the deciding Game 3 by a score of 13 rounds to 7. Captain Josh David leaves the squad after helping the Siege team capture the program's first win, the first winning season last semester, and a playoff win this semester. He had 57 kills and 10 assists in Saturday's effort.

Coming off a bye in Round 1 and a win in Round 2, the Jayhawks Overwatch team was knocked out in Round 3 following a 3 games to 1 loss to North West Arkansas Community College (NWACC), which was among the top teams in the regular season with a 9-2 record. NWACC took an early lead with a 2-0 win in Game 1 in which Charles Sisson led the Jayhawks with 14 eliminations. The boys were able to bounce back and take Game 2 in overtime by a score of 5-4 that saw 4 of the 5 Jayhawks have 22+ eliminations, 3 of the 5 having double-digit assists, and 4 of 5 having single-digit deaths. It was a complete game against one of the league's top teams. However, we couldn't keep the momentum going, and NWACC would go on to take Game 3 by a score of 3-2 and the deciding Game 4 by a score of 2-0. From a 4-2 record during the recreational summer league to a 4-2 regular season record in the fall capped off with a postseason win, the boys are looking to repeat and improve in the spring semester.

Handing the controller to Super Smash Brothers. The Jayhawks earned a bye in Round 1, where Bretten Schreve came into Saturday's action prepared for whatever challengers awaited him. Starting the night off at 7 PM was Luzerne County Community College, and it was a decisive 3-0 victory for the young Jayhawks as he took down the Trailblazer 3-2 in Game 1, 3-1 in Game 2, and 3-1 in the deciding Game 3.

In rapid-fire succession, Round 3 kicked off at 8 PM, and Brett was going against one of the top players in the country from Collin College, which finished 8-1 during the regular season. Brett was looking to run away with it following 3-2 and 3-1 wins in Games 1 and 2, but the Cougars would turn it into a series with a narrow 3-2 win in Game 3 before Brett would seal the deal with a 3-2 win in Game 4 to take the series 3 games to 1.

Schreve's playoff then extended to Tuesday, where his run came to an end following a 3-2 loss at the hands of Monroe Community College (8-0). It was a back-and-forth series the whole way with Bretten taking games 1 and 3 by scores of 3 knockouts to 2, and the Monroe player taking games 2, 4, and 5 also by scores of 3-2. While falling just short of the quarterfinal round.

Bretten's first season with the Jayhawks was a stellar one, boasting a 7-2 record, ranking him 19th nationally out of 283 participants, and taking the Jayhawks to Round 4 of the postseason tournament. Knowing where he needs to improve, he is looking to return to the sticks and finish the job in the spring season.
