JCC Starts Hot but Cools off in Jim Riggs Classic Opener

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College opened the Jim Riggs Classic on fire before shooting troubles thawed the Jayhawks in a 97-67 loss to Macomb.

JCC opened the game on an 8-0 spurt capped by Jhamien Smith's (Erie, PA / Erie HS) bucket, Smith finished the day with four points before an injury took him out of the contest.

From there, Macomb scored the next 11 points, finished by Juwan Maxey, who had a team-high 20.

The lead swelled to almost 20 before Aubrey Nicholson (Brooklyn, NY / Boys and Girls HS) stayed hot, scoring two of his game-high 33. Despite the freshman's efforts, the Jayhawks still trailed 47-29 at the break.

The Jayhawks couldn't find their footing in the second half either, as the lead stayed around 20 points for most of the final 20 minutes.

Macomb would balloon the lead to over 30 late in the half before the final of 97-67.

The loss puts Jamestown at 2-7 on the season.

The Jayhawks have a quick turnaround as they finish up the Jim Riggs Classic with a 5:00 pm tip versus Butler County Community College.
