JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College is proud to share that Sharon Rissell has been named the Western New York Athletic Conference's Distinguished Person for the 2023-24 athletic year.

"Miss Sharon" as she is known by the Jayhawks, is a staple around the gym and golf course for JCC. Sharon volunteers to keep the home and road scorebooks for all the men's basketball games. She also started to assist the women's team when their bookkeeper left early in the season.

Mrs. Rissel was always excited to help JCC student-athletes learn to do stats so they could turn that into a working position as the season progressed. Sharon took those skills and smile above and beyond for two JCC basketball tournaments where she not only helped the Jayhawk game but was also a key figure in the games JCC wasn't involved in.

Besides her infectious laugh inside the gym, Sharon also helps coordinate the volunteers for all of the JCC golfing events. She is a mainstay at the GBO golf fundraising events and takes charge inside the registration tent to help volunteers for the week-long NJCAA national championships. When Miss Sharon decides to hang up her #2 pencil, JCC will be a little less vibrant.
