ONEIDA, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's golf team finished up their season with three straight sixth-place finishes out of the nine team tournaments. A marked improvement for the Jayhawks, who finished eighth or ninth in the first five events of the season.
Starting on Friday, JCC made the drive east to Jefferson Community College. Sophomore captain Dan Towell carded the best round with an 86. He was followed up by Zach Johnson (89), Sam Little (98), and Cole Johnson (99).
On Saturday, the Dirty Birds traveled to Herkimer for their invite. JCC saw freshman Cole Johnson lead the way with an 85, his second 90 or better score to put him one round away from earning a spot in the regional championship. Dan Towell shot a 92, Sam Little a 95, Zach Johnson a 104, John Conley a 119, and Sabastian Tiaro a 125. As a team, JCC finished sixth with a 376.
The Jayhawks entered Sunday with both Towell and Cole Johnson needed to shoot 90 or fewer strokes to earn a regional spot. Johnson just squeaked in with a 90. Unfortunately, Towell just missed with a 92. The rest of the group went Little (99), Zach Johnson (100), Conley (118), and Tilaro (130).
Cole Johnson now gets ready for the regional championships hosted by SUNY Niagara on Monday, May 12th, and Tuesday, May 13th.
The rest of the group sets their sights on nationals, which are hosted by JCC at Chautauqua Golf Club June 3rd to the 6th.
