EAST AMHERST, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's golf team sent one representative to the Region 3 Golf Championship hosted by SUNY Niagara in Cole Johnson, and the freshman had the best showing of his season.
Johnson, whose season-long average hovered around 100, shot a 91 on day one of the event to move himself from his 30th qualifying spot up to 24th overall. A jump of six spots up from the highest average score to earn a spot in the tournament.
On day two, Johnson went even lower with an 82. "He had the round of the season," said a happy head coach George Sisson. The score of 82 moved the Jamestown native up to 21st for the championship. A very good showing for a golfer who earned his spot in regionals during the last event of the regular season. "It felt amazing to shoot such a good round for me and I hope it can help me go into nationals with some more confidence," added Johnson.
Now Johnson and his Jayhawk teammates set their sights on the NJCAA Division 3 national championships hosted by JCC at Chautauqua Golf Club from Tuesday, June 3rd, to Friday, June 6th.
