CHAUTAUQUA, NY - It was a record-setting day on Friday for the final round of the NJCAA Men's and Women's Golf National Championships hosted by Jamestown Community College (JCC) at Chautauqua Golf Club. The championship men's team from Sandhills Community College shot a team tournament record of 1,136; they broke the single-round record of 276, and men's individual champion Vegas Melen was one shot off of the tournament record by shooting a 278. Second place, a fellow Sandhills Flyer, Wyatt Beaver, wasn't too far behind, shooting a seven under. 

On the women's side, Joliet Junior College brought home the team crown with a score of 663. Ivy Burnett from the College of DuPage captured the women's individual crown with her +32. Community College of Morris's Sydni Sundstrom finished second, 12 shots off the leader.

The homestanding Jayhawks had another day where all three of their golfers moved up the leaderboard. Dan Towell's 84 was his best round of the event. His +12 on Friday moved him up two more spots to finish 62nd for the championship. "I enjoyed the experience. Great opportunity to play in such a competitive environment. Happy in the end to reach my goals. It was an experience I'll draw from in the future," said Towell.

Jamestown native Cole Johnson also moved up a pair of spots in the standings during the fourth round. His 83 was the best round of the week for the Jayhawks and helped him land in 64th overall. "I thought it was really fun. I had a good time. I'm proud of how I finished," said Cole Johnson.

Lastly, JCC's Zach Johnson shot a +23 to earn 70th, two spots higher than he started the final round. 

2025 marked the 26th straight year Jamestown Community College has hosted the Division III National Men's and Women's Golf Championships, and that will continue in 2026 when the tournament returns to Chautauqua Golf Club.
