Jayhawks' Rally Falls Short Against CCBC Catonsville

BALTIMORE, Md. - Looking to erase a large deficit late in the game, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to CCBC Catonsville, 74-66 Friday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (0-5) were led once again by forward Keon Armstrong (Chatham, NY/Chatham HS) with 17 points and 12 rebounds (4 offense, 8 defense) while forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) added 15 points off the bench. Guard Nekwon Scott (Petersburg, VA/Moravin Prep) added nine points off the bench. Gray used his structure in the paint, rejecting four shot attempts.

 

With the teams finding their offense early in the first half of action, the Cardinals went on a 10-2 run at the halfway point, taking a 23-14 lead. Armstrong halted the run, knocking down a pair of free throws.

 

Trailing by 10 with 3:15 left in the first half, the Jayhawks were able to cut the deficit to single-digits with a basket from Armstrong. Catonsville regained a double-digit lead, up 43-30 at half.

 

Facing their biggest deficit with 13:24 left in regulation, JCC didn't show quit in them. The Jayhawks caught fire in a 10-minute span, going on a 25-7 run, making it a 69-66 game in favor of the Cardinals. During the stretch, Armstrong and guard Brian Fajardo (Bronx, NY/Aeci Charter HS) scored six while guard Clinique Jackson (Rochester, NY/East HS) scored five.

 

The Cardinals were able to put the game away, scoring on their next two possessions.

 

The Jayhawks went 25-for-65 (38.5 percent) from the floor while the Cardinals went 30-for-75 (40.0 percent) from the field. JCC held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 54 rebounds to Catonsville's 42 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they face CCBC Dundalk tomorrow, November 20th, with a 3:30 p.m. start. No spectators are permitted.
