Jayhawks look to rebound against GCC on Sophomore Day

JAMESTOWN – Looking to close the regular season out on a high, the Jamestown Community College men’s basketball team will host Genesee Community College tomorrow afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (8-15, 1-8 WNYAC) are coming off a tough road loss this past Wednesday against Monroe Community College, falling 101-57. Jordan Thomas led the way on offense, scoring 25 points with Sheick Kourmora adding 20 points. Donathan Daniels led the efforts of the glass, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds (5 offense, 3 defense).

 

The last time JCC faced the Cougars, Jamestown lost 98-70 on the road. Thomas had a team-high 19 points with Kyle Butler adding 16 points on the night. Thomas also had a team-high eight rebounds in the game.

 

On the season in region action, the Jayhawks have scored 70.9 points per game while shooting 38.3 percent from the floor. Thomas has been on a tear once region action started, scoring 22.3 points per game. Kourmora has been a good source of offense as well, scoring 15.8 points per contest.

 

On the boards, Jamestown has grabbed 33.3 rebounds per game in region action. Thomas leads the team in that category as well, grabbing seven rebounds per game. Jake Hougan and Daniels are second on the team, grabbing just over four rebounds per game.

 

JCC will face a Cougars team that have posted a season record of 17-8 and a record in the region of 5-4. They are currently coming of a 74-68 win over No. 15 Niagara County Community College. GCC had three player score in double digits with Jalen Willis leading the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

 

The last time GCC faced the Jayhawks, the Cougars had five player scored in double figures with Tyler Bourne leading the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Cougars benefited from a hot shooting night, going 36-for-74 (48.6 percent) from the floor.

 

On the season in region action, the Cougars have averaged 82.1 points per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field. Tyler Bourne has led the offensive effort, scoring 21.6 points per game. GCC has three other players averaging double digits per game in region action.

 

On the boards, the Cougars are grabbing 39.3 rebounds per game in region action. Devin Green leads the way with 7.1 rebounds per game with Willis adding 5.1 rebounds per game.

 

Before the game, the JCC men’s basketball team will be recognizing Donathan Daniels, Markus Coleman and Jason Guillen on Sophomore Day. The game will tip at 3 p.m.
