Jayhawks to meet GCC in Sub Regional action

JAMESTOWN – Looking to extend their 2019-2020, the No. 6 Jamestown Community College men’s basketball team with play at No. 4 Genesee Community College Tuesday evening in the Region III Sub Regional matchup.

 

The Jayhawks (8-16, 1-9 WNYAC) are coming off a tough loss against Genesee Community College, 92-80. Jordan Thomas added another double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Jake Hougan had his best game to date, scoring 19 points on 8-for-8 (100 percent) shooting from the floor. Kyle Butler had a great day at the point, dishing out six assists.

 

JCC will look to get their first win on the year against the Cougars as they fell in their first matchup, 98-70 just three weeks ago.

 

In region play, JCC has averaged 71.8 points per game while shooting 31.6 percent from the floor. Thomas has come alive in region play, averaging 21.6 points with Sheick Kourmora scoring 15.7 points per contest.

 

On the glass, Jamestown has grabbed 34 rebounds per game. Leading the way once again is Thomas, grabbing 7.9 rebounds in region action.

 

The Jayhawks will play a Cougars team that has a season record of 18-8 and a region record of 6-4. They are coming off a 92-80 win over JCC this past Saturday. GCC had five players score in double figures with Jordan Matos leading the way with 29 points. Devin Green had a good day, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

 

On the year in region play, the Cougars have scored 83.1 points per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the floor. Selassie Bourne leads the way, scoring 21.6 points per game. GCC have four players’ average double digits in region play.

 

On the glass, the Cougars have grabbed 40.1 rebounds per game. Green leads the way with 7.9 rebounds per game with Jalen Willis grabbing 5.1 rebounds per game.

 

Action will start tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. at the Anthony T. Zambito Gymnasium.
