Thomas and Kourmora named to All-Region teams

To cap off the 2019-20 season for the Jamestown Community College men’s basketball season, two players were selected to the Region III Division II All-Region teams.

 

The Jayhawks finished fifth in the region, posting a season record of 8-17 and a region record of 1-9. The team’s lone region win came in an 83-81 battle at Mercyhurst North East where Jordan Thomas scored 24 points with Sheick Kourmora adding 16 points.

 

With their hard work and stellar play in that game and for the whole season, Jordan Thomas was a Region III Division II Second Team All-Region selection with Kourmora being a Region III Division II Third Team All-Region selection.

 

Jordan Thomas, Freshman Guard – Second Team All-Region

Thomas, a native of Queens, N.Y., was the driving force for the Jayhawks in his first season. Thomas recorded six double-doubles on the season with his first one coming at Sinclair Community College earlier in the season. Thomas averaged 18.7 points per game, which ranks tied for third in the region, while shooting 49.7 percent from the field. In region action, Thomas averaged 21.6 points per game.

 

Thomas scored 20 or more points in 13 games played for JCC. In nine region games played, Thomas was held under 20 points in two games.

 

On the glass, Thomas averaged 7.1 rebounds per game which ranks fourth in the region. Thomas eclipsed the double digit rebounds in six games, with a career-high 15 coming against Genesee Community College at home.

 

Sheick Kourmora, Freshman Guard – Third Team All Region

 Kourmora, a native of Harlem, N.Y., played   a key role in what the Jayhawks did on the offensive end, averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor. Kourmora was also lethal from beyond the arc, hitting 41.3 percent of his three-point shots.

 

Kourmora eclipsed 20 points in nine games, with four of those games coming against region opponents. Kourmora netted a career-high 31 points at home against Pitt-Titusville earlier in the season.

 

Thomas and Kourmora will look to carry over their success next season in their sophomore year.​
