SANBORN – In the NJCAA Region 3 Tournament Semifinals, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team escaped with a 61-55 win over Monroe Community College Saturday afternoon at Niagara County Community College.

The Jayhawks (15-9) were led by freshman forward Grace Lundmark (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) offensively, scoring 21 points with sophomore guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) adding 16 points. Sophomore forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) was a presence on the defensive end, grabbing 15 rebounds (3 offense, 12 defense) to go along with six blocks.

JCC found themselves behind 29-26 going into the break but after some adjustments, they were able to regain the lead after the third quarter where they outscored the Tribunes 19-13.

After giving up a quick bucket in the early seconds of the third quarter, the Jayhawks scored seven unanswered to take the 33-31 lead with 6:04 left in the frame. JCC was able to go on another run after a brief slump, this time scoring eight unanswered to make it 41-35.

Taking a 45-42 lead into the final quarter of regulation, the Jayhawks were able to keep the lead during the first five minutes before MCC took a 53-52 lead with 2:51 remaining. Harden did what she does best in crunch time, driving the ball through the lane to retake the lead for the final time. Harden also came up clutch in the final seconds of the game, knocking down a three-pointer to give them a 59-55 lead to salt the game away.

The Jayhawks will be in the Region 3 Tournament Championship game tomorrow, February 26th, as they face the No. 1 seed Niagara County Community College for a 12 p.m. tip.
