Jayhawks Fall to No. 20 Lackawanna College on the Road

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team fell to a tough No. 20 Lackawanna College team on Saturday afternoon, falling 94-62.

 

The Jayhawks (1-2) were led by freshman forward Nadara Odell (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) with another double-double, scoring 20 points while grabbing 13 rebounds (7 offense, 6 defense). Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) added 15 points with Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) chipping in with eight points.

 

On the boards, Hicks continues her strong start to the season, grabbing 11 rebounds (1 offense, 10 defense). Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) was active on the defensive end, coming away with a career-high five steals.

 

Lackawanna was led offensively by Thays Torres with 18 points while Jamiya Eaddy added 15 points. Deaja Cromartie finished with 15 boards (9 offense, 6 defense) to lead the Falcons.

 

As expected, each team came into the game going tic-for-tac with each other. Neither side gained more than a one possession lead during the first frame with the score tied at 13-13.

 

Heading into the second frame, the Falcons generated some offense, opening up on a 9-0 run to go up 22-13 in the early going. Nance halted the run with a three-pointer off the feed from sophomore guard Macey Lundmark (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS).

 

JCC continued to keep the game to a single-digit deficit in the first half of the second quarter before Cromartie scored on a jumper to put Lackawanna up 31-21. The Jayhawks cut the deficit to single-digits once again after a pair of free throws from Lundmark, closing it to a 38-29 ball game. 

 

Nya Morris extended their lead to double digits in the closing second before half time, maker her jump shot to put Lackawanna up 41-31.

 

The Jayhawks were able to close the gap to seven points with Odell making the frontend of her free throw shots, making it 41-34. The Falcons would quickly pull away in the third quarter, taking a 62-42 lead into the final frame.

 

Lackawanna outscored the Jayhawks 53-29 in the second half.

 

JCC went 20-for-84 (23.8 percent) from the field with Lackawanna shooting 37-for-108 (34.3 percent) from the floor. The Falcons held the advantage in rebounds, grabbing 77 to the Jayhawks' 60. Lackawanna also had the edge in points off turnovers, scoring 21points to JCC's 11 points.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Tuesday as they travel to face Bryant & Stratton Rochester.
