Jayhawks Late Rally Falls Just Short

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (5-9) hosted the Vikings of Villa Maria College (11-7).  The first period saw the Jayhawks start out hot and with 4 minutes gone in the period the Jayhawks led 10-4.  The Vikings then went on a rally and with 1 minute left in the period it was all tied up 16-16 and the period would end with the Vikings up 18-16.  The second period saw the Vikings outscore the Jayhawks 10-0 in the first five minutes to further their lead 28-16 but the Jayhawks started to claw their way back and score 10 points of their own in the remaining 5 minutes as the Vikings took a 25-26 lead into half time. 

In the third period, both offenses began to click but with 4 minutes gone it was still the Vikings in charge with a 44-31 lead.  The Jayhawks would then get hot and go on a run which would greatly narrow the lead to Vikings 44, Jayhawks 40 and when the third period came to an end, it was a 4 point game with the Vikings holding a 46-42 lead.  The fourth period saw the Vikings pull away again and with only 6 minutes left in the game held a 55-44 lead.  Then, the Jayhawks 3 point machine would hit high gear with 3 point shots by #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman), #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama), and again by Houle launched the Jayhawks back into the game and fueled an 11 point run, and with 3 minutes left to play, the score all tied up 55-55.  With 2 minutes left the Vikings took a 57-55 lead but that was quickly surpassed by another 3 point shot by Sperry to give the Jayhawks a 58-57 lead.  A late 3 point shot by the Vikings would tie the game at 60-60 with 35 seconds left in the game.  The Jayhawks rally would run out of steam as the Vikings would go on to win 65-60. 

The Jayhawks were led by #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) who had a double double consisting of 21 points (including 5 3-point shots), 10 rebounds, and 6 assists; #45 Tayler Morrison (Australia) had 11 points and 6 rebounds; #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman) had 9 points and 3 assists; #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton) had 8 points and 5 rebounds; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had 6 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists; #33 Brianne Davis (Bemus Point) had 3 points and 5 rebounds; and #11 Hayden Burgeson (Lakewood) had 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
