Jayhawks and Cougars Come Down To The Wire

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (7-18) hosted the Cougars of Genesee Community College (14-16).  Before the game, JCC honored the sophomore athletes which included #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville), #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman), #33 Brianne Davis (Bemus Point), and #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton).  After the ceremonies ended the game began.  Two teams with playoff seeding on the line played a see saw battle.  The Jayhawks switched to a full court press defense which helped keep the Cougars off balance and cut loose with their 3 point shooting machine.  The teams swapped leads and kept close to each other throughout the action packed game.  The game came down to the wire but the Jayhawks were unable to capitolize on an opportunity to send the game to overtime which allowed the Cougars were able to down the Jayhawks 65-63. 

The Jayhawks were led by #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) who had 23 points (including 5 from beyond the arc), 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals; #22 Jada Jackson (Wellsboro) had 11 points and 7 rebounds; #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman) had 11 points and 4 assists; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had 9 points and 6 rebounds; and #33 Brianne Davis (Bemus Point) had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. 

Scoreboard
