Six Players Score Double-Digits; Jayhawks defeat Bobcats at Home

JAMESTOWN - It was an offensive exploding for the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team Friday night, coming away with the 115-103 win over Bryant & Stratton Albany, as six players scored double-digit points.

 

The Jayhawks (3-5) had two players record double-doubles on the night as freshman forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) scored 13 points and grabbing a carer-high 24 rebounds (7 offense, 17 defense) while freshman guard Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) dropped 18 points and dishing out 11 assists. Freshman forward Nadara Odell (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) led the team in scoring with 23 points.

 

Freshman guard Kate Tedquist (Penrose, CO/Canon City HS) continues strong play adding 18 points with guards Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) and Marisa Schuppenhauer (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS) chipping in with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

 

Saige Roberts led the offense for the Bobcats, scoring 29 points. Anyla Harper grabbed 10 boards (1 offense, 9 defense) with Na'seyah Dix dishing out 10 assists.

 

JCC fell behind early with Bryant & Stratton scoring the games first seven points. Tedquist found Beehler for the three-pointer to halt the run.

 

The Bobcats maintained their lead for a good portion of the first frame but the Jayhawks would slowly chip away at the lead. A laup by Odell and a three-pointer by Nance closed the deficit to one with the Bobcats up 17-16. The teams traded buckets before Beehler knocked down her second three-point to square things up. With time coming to a close in the first quarter, the Bobcats would get a three-pointer back, taking a 24-21 lead at the end of the first.

 

The teams traded the lead in the first five minutes of the second quarter before the Jayahwks scored six straight points off made baskets from Hicks and freshman guard Sydney Burk (Jamestown, NY/SOuthwestern High) along with a pair of free throws from Odell. During a two minute span, JCC saw their lead grow to as many as 10 points with Beehler hitting a pair of free throws.

 

The Bobcats cut the deficit to seven before sophomore guard Macey Lundmark (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) made two free throws to give the Jayhawks the 56-47 lead going into the intermission.

 

JCC came out of the gates firing in the third quarter, scoring six unanswered and gaining their biggest lead of the game of 16 points, taking a 63-47 lead with Odell knocking down her free throw attempts. The Jayhawks maintained a sizable lead throughout the quarter as they took an 81-70 lead heading into the final frame.

 

The Jayhawks found themselves with a 16 point lead once again in the fourth quarter thanks to made baskets from Hicks and Beehler along with a pair of free throws from Beehler. The Bobcats didn't go away easily, cutting the deficit to five points with a jumper from Harper, making it 99-94 in favor of the Jayhawks. JCC put the game away with back-to-back layups from Odell in the closing minutes.

 

JCC went 40-for-108 (37 percent) from the floor as the Bobcats went 39-for-92 (42.4 percent from the floor. Jayhawks had a dominant performance on the glass, out rebounding Bryant & Stratton, 75-57. The Jayhawks also controlled the paint, scoring 54 points to the Bobcats' 48 points.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they face No. 17 Union County College tomorrow at 4 p.m.
