Hemminger records first career double-double as Jayhawks cruise past Lorain County

ELYARIA, Ohio – Four players score double digits as the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team defeated Lorain County Community College 64-50 Wednesday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (5-7) were led offensively by Gabby Iuculano with 16 points as Courtney Hemminger, Abi Lisciandro and Katelyn Fardink all scored 10 points. Hemminger secured the double-double as she grabbed 16 rebounds (4 offense, 12 defense).

 

JCC got out to a fast start against the Commodores, scoring the games first seven points. Iuculano got the scoring going with a layup and three-pointer with Marisa Schuppenhauer knocking down a jump shot. Lorain County stopped the bleeding as Bri Gallagher knocked down the backend of her two free throws. Jamestown regained the momentum, scoring eleven straight points to take a commanding 18-1 lead with just over three minutes left in the frame. The Jayhawks closed the quarter, taking a 21-7 lead.

 

In the second quarter, Jamestown continued their strong offensive attack, extending the lead to 21 points with three minutes until have time. The teams traded baskets before JCC took a commanding 41-19 lead into halftime.

 

The Commodores found their offensive spark in the third quarter, going on a 17-4 run to cut the deficit to nine points. Lisicandro stopped the run, making the frontend of her two free throw shots. The Jayhawks scored the next six points with baskets from Izzy Bursch, Macey Lundmark and Fardink.

 

Jamestown shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field while shooting 33.3 percent (4-for-12) from beyond the arc. The Commodores shot 26 percent (19-for-73) from the field and 19.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Jayhawks had command of the boards, grabbing 50 rebounds to Lorain County's 37 rebounds. JCC also showed their presence in the paint, scoring 36 points to the Commodores 10 points.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action on January 8th as they host Butler County at 5 p.m.
