Jayhawks Get Huge Road Win at Niagara County

SANBORN - Looking to even the season series between the two teams, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team came away with a 119-11 overtime win over Niagara County Community College Monday evening.

 

For the Jayhawks (2-4, 1-1 WNYAC), this was their first win against the Thunderwolves since the 2017-18 season when JCC won, 73-53.

 

In the game, JCC had a number of players step up, posting new career-highs during the game. Freshman forward Nadara Odell (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk, NY) continues to find the baskl in volume, posting a new career-high 33 points on the night. Freshman guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) had an offensive explosion, scoring a career-high 30 points including nine made free throws. 

 

Freshman guard Kate Tedquist (Penrose, CO/Canon City HS) added a career-high 19 points with freshman guard Sydney Burk (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern HS) chipping in a career-high 14 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

 

Freshman forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) continues to dominate the glass, collecting a career-high 23 boards (3 offense, 20 defense) while tying a career-high six block shots.

 

NCCC was led offensively by Gabrielle McDuffie with 26 points and 17 boards (6 offense, 11 defense), respectively.

 

The Jayhawks controlled their largest lead of the game by 20 points in the second quarter on their way to a 51-36 lead at the break. The Thunderwolves battled back in the second half, getting a lead of seven and outscoring JCC, 61-45. During the overtime frame, JCC showed their offensive presence, scoring 23 points in five minutes.

 

JCC went 39-for-97 (40.2 percent) from the floor while NCCC went 45-for-123 (36.6 percent). JCC also held the advantage at the free throw line, making 65.3 percent to NCCC's 48.1 percent.

 

The two teams will meet once again this Wednesday, March 24th, in a pivotal game to take control of Region 3. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
