Jayhawks Post Season Hopes Dashed By Cougars 2nd Period Run

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (7-19) went on the road to face the Cougars of Genesee Community College (15-16) in the Region III Sub-Regional Game.  These two teams were no strangers to each other, this being the 3rd matchup of the season, and having played each other the previous week in a game that came down to the final seconds.

The first period saw the Jayhawks start out hot, up 9-2 at one point, and they held onto the lead until the final seconds, when with 18 seconds to play the Cougars took the lead 11-9.  The second period saw the Cougars go on a run but the Jayhawks hung in there, and with 4 minutes left to play the Cougars held a slim 22-19 lead.  The Cougars would pull away again with the halftime score reading Cougars 31, Jayhawks 21.  The third period saw the Jayhawks again scrap their way back into the contest, and with 4 minutes left to play the Jayhawks were very much back in the game, down 38-32.  The Cougars would take control of the game after this however, and the Jayhawks would not get close to the Cougars for the remainder of the game as the Cougars downed the Jayhawks 65-47.

The Jayhawks were led by #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) who had 21 points and 7 rebounds; #22 Jada Jackson (Wellsboro) had 13 points and 5 rebounds; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had 12 rebounds; #45 Tayler Morrison (Australia) had 3 points and 3 rebounds; and #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman) and #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton) had 3 points each.
