Strong Second Half Propels Jayhawks to Win on Sophomore Day

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College ends the women's basketball regular season with back-to-back wins, the final stanza being a 64-54 home victory over Monroe Community College.

The Jayhawks found themselves in two different five-point holes to start the game, the second one at 10-5, which was erased quickly thanks to some tough defense and a Chyann Kelly layup.

Jamestown took its first lead on the next possession when freshman Keturah Stewart splashed home a three to make it 13-10 Jayhawks.

Monroe captured a one-point lead after the first quarter. Things stayed that way through three minutes of the second before Courtney Martin knocked down a shot in the paint to put JCC back on top.

Jamestown once again trailed by five in the later stages of the half before closing things out on a 7-0 run, capped by a three from sophomore Hayley Dawson. The New Zealand native hit three triples on the day.

The run continued in the second half, with Myla Truitt doing damage from downtown. The freshman's three at the 7:20 mark made it a 33-22 lead for JCC. She finished with a game-high 22.

MCC made it interesting early in the fourth, cutting the deficit to four before Grace Lundmark made a short jumper. The Falconer native ended with eight points and ten rebounds.

Some clutch offensive rebounds and put-backs late sealed the game for Jamestown. The win evens their record at 12-12 on the season and 4-2 in league play. Next up for the Jayhawks are regional playoffs set for March 2nd and 3rd.
