JCC Welcomes 8 Teams to Jamestown for 8 Games This Weekend

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College men's and women's basketball teams host their annual basketball tournament this weekend inside the JCC PHED Complex.

The Jim Riggs Classic features the Jayhawk men plus the men's programs from Niagara Country Community College, Butler County Community College (PA), and Macomb Community College (MI).

On Saturday, December 2nd, the men's games start with Butler vs. Niagara with a tip time of 3:00 pm. The marquee matchup on Saturday is JCC taking on Macomb at 7:00 pm.

Jamestown comes in with a record of 2-6, but those two wins have come in their last three contest as head coach Xavier Churnac and his Jayhawks start to find their stride. JCC enters this contest with two of the top five leading scorers in Region 3. Aubrey Nicholson (Brooklyn, NY / Boys and Girls HS) paces the Region with 19.1 points per game, while Jhamien Smith (Erie, PA / Erie HS) is fifth with 15.0 points per game.

Switching to Sunday, December 3rd. It'll be Niagara battling Macomb with a 1:00 pm start, then Jamestown finishes off the weekend when they take on Butler at 5:00 pm.

Flipping to the women's side of the event. The Jayhawks welcome Niagara, Butler, and Garrett College to JCC for their Winter Classic.

Jamestown enters this weekend at 2-6, coming off of a pair of heartbreakers where they lead late into the fourth quarter in each game.

JCC has three of the top 13 scorers in Region 3. Keturah Stewart (Bethlehem, PA / Freedom HS) leads the Jayhawks with 13.7 points per game, good enough for second overall. Her teammates Grace Lundmark (Falconer, NY / Falconer HS) and Chyann Kelly (Bailey, CO / Platte Canyon HS) are 11th and 13th, respectively, with 8.8 and 8.6 points per game.

The ladies' schedule starts on Saturday afternoon with Niagara playing Butler at 1:00 pm, followed by JCC taking on Garrett at 5:00 pm.

On Sunday, it'll be Garrett versus Niagara at 11:00 am, then the home standing Jayhawks host Butler at 3:00.
