Jayhawks Cruise Past The Tribunes

JAMESTOWN – Closing out the fall portion of the season, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team cruised past Monroe Community College by a score of 86-39 Wednesday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (5-7, 2-1 Region 3) had three players with double-doubles as freshman forward Grace Lundmark (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) scored 14 points and 11 rebounds (5 offense, 6 defense), sophomore guard/sophomore Zalika Stevens (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Thornlea Secondary School) with 14 points and 10 rebounds (8 offense, 2 defense), and sophomore forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) with 12 points and 23 rebounds (8 offense, 15 defense). Sophomore guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) led the offense with 21 points.

 

The teams came out trading punches before JCC was able to pull out in front with a 17-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

 

The Jayhawks were ablet o get a 10-point lead with 5:59 to go until the break with a fastbreak basket from Stevens to make it 23-13. JCC kept their sizeable lead during a god stretch of the second quarter, seeing a lead as big as 17 points with over a minute until half time.

 

After the break, the Jayhawks was able to deliver the knockout blow in the third quarter, outscoring the Tribunes 28-6 to make it 67-31 going into the final quarter.

 

The Jayhawks went 37-for-90 (41.1 percent) from the field with the Tribunes going 16-for-82 (19.5 percent) from the floor. JCC held a monster advantage on the boards, grabbing 84 rebounds to MCC's 45 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will be off for the winter break before returning home on January 11th as they host Butler County Community College for a 5:30 p.m. start.
