Jayhawks Tame the Kats To Open Region Play

BUFFALO – Playing in their first NJCAA Region 3 game of the season, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team cruised past Erie Community College by a score of 81-32.

 

The Jayhawks (3-3, 1-0 Region 3) had four players in double-digit scoring, led by sophomore guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Sophomores Zalika Stevens (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Thornlea Secondary School) and Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) scored 13 points each with Lauren Alfa (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) adding 10 points. Hicks also added 17 rebounds (11 offense, 6 defense) in the effort.

 

JCC jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead early in the first quarter and didn't look back. During the run, harden led the way with four points with Hicks and Alfa adding three points each. The Kats showed some resistance from that point of the frame, as they made it a 19-9 game heading into the second quarter.

 

The Jayhawks saw their offense go to work, opening the second quarter on a 15-0 run to make it 34-11 with three minutes until halftime. Stevens led the offense onslaught with five points while Hicks added four points. JCC kept the pressure on and took a commanding 37-17 lead at the half.

 

The third quarter was where JCC clamped down on the defensive end, holding ECC to four points.

 

The Jayhawks put the game away for good in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Kats 28-11.

 

JCC went 34-for-72 (47.2 percent) from the floor while ECC went 9-for-56 (16.1 percent) from the field. The Jayhawks had command of the glass, grabbing 63 rebounds to ECC's 26.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Monday, November 21st, as they travel to Lakeland Community College for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
