Late Rally Comes Up Short Against Lackawanna College

ROCHESTER - In the second day of the Murph Shapiro Classic at Monroe Community College, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team fell to Lackawanna College by a score of 70-66.

 

The Jayhawks (2-3) were led by sophomore guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, NY/Erie HS) with 23 points to go along with nine rebounds. Freshman forward Grace Lundmark (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) recorded her first collegiate double-double, scoring 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds (3 offense, 7 defense). Sophomore forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) did her job on the glass, hauling in 14 rebounds (4 offense, 10 defense).

 

After trailing by a score of 36-27 at the break, JCC was able to regroup and execute their offense, scoring three-straight baskets to tie the game up at 36-36 with 6:40 remaining in the third quarter. The teams continued to trade blows throughout the frame, with neither gaining more than a two-possession lead. At the end of the third, Lackawanna made a three-pointer from Olivia Lynwood to go up 47-42 but Harden quickly made it 47-46 with back-to-back baskets with one quarter remaining.

 

The Falcons found a window in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 unanswered points to make it 66-54 with under two minutes in regulation. The Jayhawks clawed back in the final minutes, scoring 12 of the game's next 16 points including a pair of three-pointers from Harden but the comeback came up short.

 

The Jayhawks went 27-for-62 (43.5 percent) from the field with the Falcons going 25-for-67 (37.3 percent) from the floor. JCC held the slight edge on the boards, grabbing 42 rebounds to Lackawanna's 38 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Wednesday, November 16th, as they travel to Erie Community College to begin Region 3 play at 5:30 p.m.
