Jayhawks Uses Strong Second Quarter To Defeat Jefferson CC

WATERTOWN - Wrapping up their first road trip on a high, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team were crowned champions of the Cannoneer Classic, defeating Jefferson Community College by a score of 73-70 Sunday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (2-1) continue to find their offensive attack coming from freshman forward Grace Lundmark (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) who scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds (4 offense, 5 defense) with sophomore guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) going for 18 points and dishing out eight assists. Sophomore forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) did her job on the glass, grabbing 11 boards (3 offense, 8 defense) and blocked four shots.

 

JCC trailed by four at the end of the first frame before finding their offense in the second quarter, outsourcing the Cannoneers 29-16 and took a 42-33 lead into the break. Jefferson did make a come back in the final frame but the Jayhawks held strong for the win.

 

The Jayhawks went 30-for-72 (41.7 percent) from the floor while grabbing 45 rebounds.

 

JCC will continue their road trip this Saturday, November 12th, as they take on Sullivan County Community College at 12 p.m. at the Murph Shapiro Classic hosted by Monroe Community College.
