Jayhawks look to upset NCCC in Region III Semifinals

JAMESTOWN – Looking to make a run for the Region III Division II Championship this weekend, the No. 4 Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team will take on No. 1 Niagara County Community College tomorrow afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (10-15) are coming off a 46-38 win over No. 5 Erie Community College this past Wednesday in the Region III Sub Regional game. Gabby Iuculano provide a bulk of the offense, scoring 19 points, 11 points of which were from the charity stripe. Kayla Hohl and Marisa Schuppenhauer added nine points each, respectively. Linnea Jimerson and Jesse Zenns led the way of the boards, grabbing eight rebounds each. Hohl, Schuppenahuer and Abi Lisciandro each had six rebounds in the game.

 

JCC will look to avenge their two losses against the Thunderwolves with their most recent coming at home, falling 92-52. During the game, Hohl had a team-high 13 points with Courtney Hemminger adding 11 points off the bench. Hemminger also had six rebounds to lead the team. Iuculano got her teammates involved, dishing out five dimes.

 

On the seasons, the Jayhawks have scored 62.8 points per game while shooting 35.2 percent from the floor. Iuculano is averaging 15.2 points per game with Schuppenahuer scoring 8.2 points per game. Hohl has come into her own in region play, scoring 10.3 points per game.

 

On the boards, Jimerson is leading the way for the team, grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game. Hemminger and Zenns have also grabbed their fair share of rebounds, collecting five rebounds each.

 

They Jayhawks will face a NCCC team that has a season record of 28-1 and a perfect 10-0 record in the region. In their last game, the Tunderwovles rolled past ECC, defeating them 91-31. NCCC had four players score double digits with Cierra Harrison scoring 19 points. Molly Mahony and Eliza Conyers lead the team in rebounds, grabbing seven boards each.

 

The last time NCCC faced the Jayhawks, the Thunderwolves had four player scored double figures in the game. Harrison had a game-high 22 point. Nickelle O’Neil recorded a double-double on the day, scoring 14 points and coming away with 10 steals. Aubrey Halloran led the team with 11 rebounds.

 

On the season, NCCC has scored 90 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field. The Thunderwolves have four players that average double digits per game. Paige Emborsky has averaged 15.3 points per game while Harrison has averaged 15 points per game.

 

On the glass, the Thunderwolves have grabbed 47.2 rebounds per game with Mahony averaging eight boards a game.

 

Tip is set for 1 p.m. at the Main Gym on the campus of Niagara County Community College on Saturday.
