JCC Swimmers and Divers are Ready to Attack Nationals

FORT PIERCE, FL - "The hay is in the barn," said JCC head coach Todd Conklin about his team's preparations for this week's national championship swimming and diving meets that start early Wednesday morning.

Jamestown Community College's women's team has won two of the last three non-scholarship national titles and looks to get a third, starting with Lindsey Spitz in the 50-yard breaststroke, where she's seeded seventh overall. "I'm excited to hopefully stand on the podium a couple of times and break some records that I don't already hold, like the 50 breast and possibly the 200," added Spitz. The sophomore is one of eight Jayhawks who will take the starting blocks on Wednesday.

Jamestown also has two divers who will make a splash on Wednesday, Ashlynn Swan and Shaylyn Owens. After the men's and women's 50 breaststroke, is the 1,000-yard freestyle featuring Ella Fosberg and Anna Jones, who qualified eighth and twelfth, respectively. "It's been three years since I've been in swim season. All the hard work I've put in my entire life has led up to this moment. I want to push myself harder than I have been and beat my personal best," mentioned Jones.

The women's 200-yard individual medley features three ladies from JCC, with Spitz being joined by Hayley Dawson and Stacey Blackler. "All the hard work I've put in is finally going to pay off. Five months of sacrifice will be showcased in the water. I'm hoping to finish top eight and earn all-American status," said Dawson. Blackler, a fellow international student with Dawson, weighed in with her thoughts as well: "We've been training hard these last few months. I'm looking forward to racing and hopefully achieving personal bests."

On the men's side, Brady Lindstrom and Toby Gifford also partake in the 50-yard breaststroke, while Maxim Johnson and Lukas Baer do the sprint swim in the 50-yard freestyle.
