JCC Women's Swimming and Diving Stays Perfect on the Season

JAMESTOWN, NY - A standing-room-only crowd inside the JCC PHED Complex Aquatic Center witnessed the Jamestown Community College women's swimming and diving team move to a perfect 9-0, including 6-0 in WNYAC Meets.

"It was great to see our Men and Women go out and race and be competitive. Swimming the longer races is something that we haven't done this year yet, and I thought the kids responded great to it. Especially as most have never competed in those events," said head coach Todd Conklin.

The Jayhawks started off the event with a win in the women's 400-yard IM, where the group of Madison Kramer (Falconer, NY / Falconer HS)Lindsey Spitz (Jamestown, NY / Jamestown HS)Paiden Wittmeyer (Stockton, NY / Cassadaga Central), and Stacey Blackler (Edenvale, Gauteng, South Africa / Edanvale HS).

From there, it was Ella Fosberg (Jamestown, NY / Southwestern Central School) bringing home a victory in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 13:09:35.

Jamestown also took home the 200 and 50 freestyle swims, with Kramer claiming the 200 and Hayley Dawson (Papamoa, New Zealand / Tauranga Girl's College) taking gold in the 50 by over two seconds in her first event with the team. Dawson's teammate Shaylyn Owens (Delevan, NY / Pioneer Central) brought home second for JCC in the 50.

Flipping over to the individual IMs, it was Jamestown's Wittmeyer clocking the fastest time there, too.

In the 100 free, Blackler was back in first, winning the event with a 1:07:04 that was over 10 seconds better than the second-place competitor.

Switching to the backstoke, the Jayhawk ladies again put on a show, Kramer and Fosberg earning the top two spots in the 200.

Newcoming Dawson had another fantastic outing in the 100-yard IM, where she took the top spot with a 1:15:27, almost six seconds faster than second.

The wins kept coming in the breaststroke, with Spitz and Blackler earning first and second.

Lastly, in the swim lanes, the 400-yard relay team of Dawson, Wittmeyer, Fosberg, and Spitz brought home another JCC victory.

"We have added a few new swimmers on each side over the past few weeks, and to see them respond was great. Toby Gifford jumped right in and made some National cuts as well as Hayley Dawson. We have made a lot of cuts for the National meet already, and we have some swimmers right on the cusp. Really happy with where we are at as we get ready for our mid-season meet at Cortland, where we will have a little rest and look for a great performance before the first half wraps up," added Conklin.

Over in the diving pool, it was another great showing by Jayhawks' Ashlynn Swan (Jamestown, NY / Southwestern Central School) and Owens. The duo took home first and third in the one-meter diving events, respectively. Swan with a score of 174.90 and Owens 137.15.

Next up for the Jayhawks is a trip to Cortland for the Snowflake Invitational December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
