Jayhawks Continue to Show Dominance; Defeat GCC

JAMESTOWN - Continuing to show their dominance in the pool, the Jamestown Community College women's swimming & diving team posted an impressive 122-75 win over Genesee Community College Monday evening.

 

"I'm impressed with all the gains the team had made," said Head Coach Todd Conklin. " Karianne (Yuchnitz) continues to impress with two more records. Megan (Stang) posted her best meet to date with Alyssa (Hanesworth) showing improvements in each meet. I'm proud of everyone and great to see growth in such challenging times."

 

The Jayhawks (3-0, 3-0 WNYAC) were led once again by Karianne Yuchnitz (Panama, NY/Panama Central), setting two new pool records during the meet. Yuchnitz set new pool records in the 50 yard freestyle (25.01) and the 100 yard freestyle (55.61). Yuchnitz broke her own records in both events, which she posted two weeks ago.

 

Megan Stang (Perrysburg, NY/Gowanda Central) cleaned up on the night, winning all three events competed in. Stang posted a time of 23:20.01 in the 1650 yard freestyle while posting a personal best 6:48.19 in the 500 yard freestyle. Stang also finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 3:06.88, edging out teammate Lillian Baer (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS).

 

Tia Moppert (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda Central) also picked up three wins during the meet. Moppert posted a time of 2:17.90 in the 200 yard freestyle and 1:10.58 in the 100 yard butterfly. Moppert finished her night in the 100 yard IM, finishing with a time of 1:11 69, edging out teammate Jade Vidas (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Parktown HS for Girls).

 

Vidas posted a first-place finish in the 200 yard IM, finishing with a time of 2:38.94.

 

Anna Burt (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) also had one win on the night, finishing with a time of 2:47.04 in the 200 yard backstroke.

 

Baer posted personal best in the 200 yard freestyle (2:29.98) and the 200 yard breaststroke (3:07.10).

 

Alyssa Hanesworth (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) continues to show improvements in the pool, posting personal best in the 50 yard freestyle (33.87) and 100 yard freestyle (1:17.19).

 

The Jayhawks also get the win in the 400 yard medley relay, posting a time of 4:51.43 with the team of Burt, Baer, Yuchnitz, and Vidas.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in the pool next Monday, March 29th, as they take on Erie Community College at 5 p.m.
