Jayhawks Hit the Water in Florida for National Championship Practice

FORT PIERCE, FL - Jamestown Community College's swimming and diving teams hit the waters of Indian River State College for national championship practice on Monday. The team flew from Buffalo down to the Sunshine State early Monday morning and immediately took to the pools for a practice swim before the national title meets start on Wednesday.

"We're all seeded pretty well. I am seeded top eight for all my events, so hopefully, as a team, we will get a lot of All-American spots and hopefully win a national championship," said sophomore Lindsey Spitz. The top eight finishers in each event earn the coveted All-American status, something all the Jayhawks have their sights set on.

The JCC women have captured two of the last three non-scholarship division national championships. Making it three of four is the top priority for the ladies of 2024. "Definitely to come out as national champions. Do our best. Place on the podium here and do our best" added Madison Kramer. Spitz and Kramer make up two of the nine ladies on the women's team who come into this event as one of the favorites to capture the crown.

Head Coach Todd Conklin guided the Jayhawks to those two titles and sees the same championship grit and abilities in this squad. "I think we are going to come out of this place with a really good opportunity for all the girls. I think we will have a lot of All-Americans. I think the guys, last year at the national meet really stepped up, and I expect that again. We are winding down and looking forward to Wednesday," said Todd Conklin.

The men, who earned a second-place finish in 2023, brought four swimmings to nationals in hopes of making the podium and adding to JCC swimming's already robust list of accolades. "Swim fast, break records, and get our personal best," mentioned Brady Lindstrom. The leader of that group is sophomore South African Maxim Johnson, who said: "A lot of excitement. We are all ready for a very big week ahead of us. Hopefully, we can bring home some hardware for Jamestown and make everyone back at home proud. It will be a good one. We will take it step-by-step and do well."

Jamestown will be back in the practice waters early Tuesday morning, with the national champion swims starting on Wednesday.
