Jayhawks Takedown The Big Bad Thunderwolves

JAMESTOWN – It was an electric atmosphere Saturday evening at the Physical Education Complex as the Jamestown Community College wrestling took down Niagara County Community College by a score of 21-18.

"This was a long time in the making," said head coach Kris Schimek. "Since I've been coaching here, we've never been able to get one on them and that moment finally came. My hat goes off to the guys that had to get bumped up in weight class. They responded to the challenge that was put in front of them and I couldn't be prouder of them."

De'Aonte Hutchinson (Baltimore, MD/Edgewood HS) got the Jayhawks on the board first, grinding out a 4-3 decision win over Joshua Gill. After a double forfeit in the 133 pound weight class, Brendon Ramsey (Panama, NY/Panama Central) was bumped up a weight class and took care of business, getting the fall over Lenox Walker in 3:18.

Luke Potts (Pittsburgh, PA/West Allegheny HS) kept the moment as he also bumped up a class, getting the 4-2 decision win over Nikalis Voelker to make it 12-0 in favor of JCC. Donovan Fiscus (Warren, PA/Warren Area HS) pushed the score to 18-0 with a forfeit win.

James Rankin (Cleveland, OH/Garfield Heights) came up in maybe the biggest way on the evening, bumping up two weight classes but was able to get the 7-3 decision win over Cortez Henderson to make it 21-0.

The Thunderwolves made a late run in the final three bouts but came up short.

The Jayhawks will be back in action tomorrow, January 29th, as they host the Jamestown Community College Open with action starting at 9:30 a.m.
