JAMESTOWN - In a battle between Region 3 foes, the No. 29 Jamestown Community College wrestling team fell to No. 17 Niagara County Community College Saturday evening, 36-9.

The Jayhawks (4-6, 0-1 Region 3) fell in an 11-0 hole after the first three matches before 149 pounder James Rankin (Cleveland, OH/Garfield Heights) went to work. In a match against Nikalis Voelker, the two battled back-and-forth, working to get the upper hand on each other. In a 4-4 tie after seven minutes of action, Rankin saw his opportunity and capitalized on it to get the 6-4 sudden victory-1 win.

The other victory for JCC in the dual came at the 197 pound weight class as Brock Johnson (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) got the fall over Jiyah Mentley, needing 2:31 to do so.

In exhibition action, De'Aonte Hutchinson (Baltimore, MD/Edgewood HS) was in a wild match against Wesley Licht. Hutchinson gained a sizable lead early on Licht in the first period to take all the momentum going into the second frame. Licht then got the upper hand heading into the final period. In the final period Hutchinson got the fall over Licht with a hip toss at the 6:03 mark.

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they are back in action tomorrow morning, Sunday January 30th, as they host the JCC Open starting at 9:30 a.m.
