Jayhawks Place Three at Washington & Jefferson Invitational

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Competing in their first invitational of the young season, the Jamestown Community College wrestling team finished 9th of 17 teams while placing three wrestlers at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational this past Saturday.

 

The field of teams came from NCAA division II and III with Garrett College also competing, representing the NJCAA along with the Jayhawks.

 

For JCC, Trenton Donahue (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area HS) finished second in the 141 pound division, Ross Abram (Eden, NY/Eden Central) placed third in the 174 weight class, and Joey Pillittieri (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) had a solid day as well with a fourth place finish in the 141 weight class.

 

Donahue started his day receiving a bye before he faced Hunter Martz of Thiel College in the second round. Donahue earned the fall in the second period. Moving onto the quarterfinals, Donahue earned the 10-2 major decision over Jake Stein of Gettysburg College.

 

In the semifinals, Donahue faced Jacob Donahue of Lake Erie College, grinding out a 4-0 decision victory. In the finals Donahue fell to Nate Deboe of Lake Erie College by a 7-2 decision.

 

Abram also received a bye in the first round and moved to the second round where he faced Victor Elias from the University of Pitt Bradford. Abram made quick work of Elias, getting the fall in the second period. Moving into the quarterfinals, Abram continued to stay hot with a fall over Jaron Patterson of Lake Erie College in the first period.

 

Looking to keep his momentum in the semifinals, Abram went toe-to-toe with Jaden Datz of Washington & Jefferson but fell by a 6-4 decision. In the third-place match, Abram got the win via forfeit over Ray Martin of Gettysburg College.

 

Pillittieri started his day off against Anthony Cascio of Gettysburg College, getting the 16-0 tech. fall. In the second round, Pillittieri earned the 8-2 decision victory over Quinton Frampton of Waynesburg College.

 

In the quarterfinals, Pillittieri battled for the entirety of regulation against Alex Savering. In the closing seconds of the third period and trailing by two, Pillittieri hit a reversal to send the match into overtime. In the overtime period, Pillittieri hit a takedown to earn the 13-11 decision victory.

 

In the semifinals, Pillittieri fell to Deboe via 15-0 tech. fall. In the third-place match, Pillittieri fell to Donahue by an 18-5 major decision.

 

Heavyweight Alex Christy (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia HS) was the other Jayhawk on the day to earn a win. 

 

JCC will be back in action this Saturday, November 20th, as they travel to SUNY Cortland for the New York State Collegiate Championships.
