OSWEGO – Dan Torres (174) continued his strong start to the season, placing fourth at the New York State College Tournament Sunday afternoon at Oswego State.

The Jamestown Community College wrestling team place 10th out of 13 teams Sunday afternoon. At the New York State College Tournament, teams from the NJCAA and the NCAA DIII.

Torres start out his day with the hot hand, winning his first three matches by fall. Torres first fall came against Alijah Carter of Alfred State, needing 1:22 to do so. Torres went on to getting the fall against James Cruz of US Merchant Marine Academy, needing extra time to do so. In the quarterfinals, Torres picked up the fall over Nathan Parker of RIT in 4:58.

In the semifinals, Torres was bested by Nate Bradley of RIT, falling by a 4-1 decision. Moving to the consolation side of the bracket, Torres got an 8-2 decision over Christopher Eames of Brockport. In the third-place match, Torres faced Cruz again and fell by a 6-3 decision.

Max Wills (hwt.) had a solid day for the Jayhawks, picking up three wins. In his first match, Wills picked up the fall over Jacob DeWall of Alfred State, needing 1:59 to do so. In his next match, Wills fell in a close 3-1 decision to Aiden Hicks of US Merchant Marine Academy. Heading in the consolation side of the bracket, Wills rebounded with a 4-2 decision win over Chris St. Denny of RIT.

Wills continued his strong afternoon, getting a 15-0 tech. fall over Zach Reed of Niagara County Community College. Wills day ended in his next match as Owen Albanese of RIT got the 6-1 decision victory.

Taige Jones (141) had a solid outing for JCC, picking up two wins. In his first match, Jones got pinned by Dan Motta of Ithaca. In his next match, Jones picked up the fall over Nicolai Celestain of Oswego in seven minutes. Jones picked up another fall in his next match, this time defeating Mark Smithers Starr of Brockport in 5:23. In his final match, Jones got bested by Joey Brillo from RIT by a 16-0 tech fall.

The Jayhawks will be off until December 4th as they welcome Gannon University to the Physical Education Center at 6 p.m.
