Ramsey and Abram Place First at the Thunderwolves Open

SANBORN - Continuing their hot start to the 2021-22 season, the Jamestown Community College wrestling team placed fifth at the Thunderwolves Open hosted by Niagara County Community College, finishing with 84 points.

 

The Jayhawks had two wrestlers finish in first-place with Brendon Ramsey (Panama, NY/Panama Central) in the 141 pound class and Ross Abram (Eden, NY/Eden Central) in the 174 pound class. Joey Pillittieri (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) placed second in the 141 pound class with Andrew Bungar (Hermitage, PA/Hickory HS) also finishing second in the 165 pound class.

 

Ramsey received a bye in the quarterfinal before going up against Zach Ash of NCCC in the semifinals. In the semis, Ramsey grinded out a 5-4 tie breaker-1 to move to the championship match. In the championship match, Ramsey got the better of teammate Pillittieri, coming away with a 6-5 decision victory.

 

Abram started his day facing Corey Snyder of Brockport State, getting the 9-2 decision victory. In the semifinals, Abram got the fall over Joseph Teguia of Camden County College, needing 6:17 to do so. In the Championship match, Abram got an 8-5 decision win over Matt O'Donnell from Camden County College.

 

Pillittieri started his day against Francis Whitehouse of Brockport State, getting the 15-10 decision win in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Pillittieri earned the fall over Giuseppe Notte of Camden County College, needing 4:01 to do so. 

 

Bungar made his season debut, facing Eric Teguia of Camden County College in the semifinals after receiving a bye in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Bungar grinded out a 3-1 sudden victory-1 victory. In the championship match, Bungar fell to Navid Ighani of Garrett College via 6-3 decision.

 

Alex Christy (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia HS) also had one win on the day.

 

 JCC also had assistant coach, and former wrestler, Ryan Guynup '13 compete on the day, placing first in the 184 pound weight division. After getting the bye in the quarterfinals, Guynup faced Matthew Kaiser of Camden County College, getting the fall in 3:37. In the championship match, Guynup got the fall over Paxton Wertz of Garrett College in 2:13.

 

The Jayhawks will wrap up the 2021 portion of their schedule next Saturday, December 11th, as they travel to the Hiram College for a dual starting at 2:00 p.m.
