Jayhawks Hold Steady At Third Place After Day Two Of Nationals

CHAUTAUQUA – It was another strong outing for the Jamestown Community College men's golf team as they hold strong after the second round of the 2023 NJCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships held at Chautauqua Golf Club.

 

The Jayhawks posted a team score of 311, seven strokes better than day one, for a two-day total of 629. Butler County Community College is nipping at the heels with a two-day score of 635.

 

The biggest mover of the day was Anthony Gullo (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) who shaved eight strokes off his first-round score with a 72 for a two-day total of 152 and is tied for 14th place. After sitting at plus two through the first three holes, Gullo rebounded with five pars and a birdie on hole five. On the back nine, Gullo made par on six holes to go along with a pair of birdies. Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) stayed consistent, shooting another 75 for a two-day total of 150 which is good for 10th place. After a double bogy on the first hole, Gray made birdie on the second hole. Gray finished the front nine with four pars and a birdie. On the back nine, Gray six pars and a birdie.

 

Brady Fye (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) also stayed the course, shooting another 77 for a two-day score of 154 and is tied for 19th place. Fye made three pars on the front nine along with a pair of birdies. On the back nine, Fye had a pair of birdies to go along with three pars. Austyn Cummings (Warren, PA/Warren Area HS) rounded out the scores for the Jayhawks, handing in a card of 87 for a two-day total of 173 and is in 54th place. On the front nine, Cummings made par on two holes. On the back nine, Cummings made par on three holes.

 

Athanasios Bakas (North Riding, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) made his first appearance of the tournament, shooting a 90 on the day. For the round, Bakas made one birdie to go along with five pars.

 

In the team standings, Sandhills Community College is in first with a two-day score of 576 followed by Georgia Military College with a score of 594.

 

In the individual standings, Nick Johnson (Georgia Military) and Alex Martin (Sandhills CC) are tied for first with scores of 141. Ben Read (Sandhills CC), Sean Barrett (Niagara County CC), and Noah Maness (Sandhills CC) round out the top-five with scores of 142, 145, and 147.

 

For the women, Oxford College of Emory University is in first with a two-day score of 774 with RCSJ-Gloucester sitting in second place with a score of 827.

 

Individually, Sandhills Community College has the top-three spots with Trinity Ahing in first with a score of 147, Ava Ray in second with a score of 155, and Scotty Foley in third with a score of 156. Ellia Soydara of Minnesota Community & Technical College and Rayne Yelinko County College of Morris round out the top-five with scores of 161 and 167.

 

Round three will be tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 a.m.
