Gray Earns Medalist Honors At Jayhawk Inivitational

CHAUTAUQUA - Defending his home course, Jamestown Community College's own Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) earned medalist honors at the Jayhawks Invitational, shooting a 74 at the par 72 Chautauqua Golf Club.

"I'm really proud of Traden," said Interim Head Coach George Sisson. "He worked really hard this week to set himself up for success. This past Tuesday when the weather went from rain to snow, Traden locked in to get a round of golf in. Golf in the spring in Western New York, you don't know what weather we will get so to see him out there in the elements, it's a testament to his work ethic."

Gray started out hot, hitting a birdie on the first two holes to set the pace. Gray found himself in trouble on holes three and four, hitting his boogie shots. Gray would hit par on four of the next five holes for a front-nine score of 36.

On the back nine, Gray hit a birdie on the 10th hole and parred on the following two holes. On the next three holes, Gray needed an extra stroke for each hole to get the boogies. On the remaining three holes, Gray hit his birdie shot on the 16th and made par on the final two holes.

Trevor Harrington (Arcade, NY/Pioneer Central) was the next Jayhawk to place on the afternoon, shooting a 91 to put him in 21st place. Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) made his season debut, shooting a 92 which was good for 23rd place.

Noah Adams (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) was close behind Fennell, coming in 25th place with a round score of 94. Kyle Smallback (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) shot a 97 on the day, placing him at 27th.

Josh Brown (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) and Keagan Hogg (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) came in at 32nd and 33rd place with each scoring a 105. Brown placed ahead of Keagan Hogg with a low handicap score tiebreaker.

Connor Hogg (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) rounded out the flock, coming in 35th place with a score of 111.

The Jayhawks will be back in action tomorrow, April 30th, as they travel to Willow Creak Golf CLub for the Niagara County Inivitational.
